FROM THE GARB NAZI’S DESK

(AKA Kender)

This is your official Garb Nazi speaking, so listen up!

Due to the cold weather, I’m going to be a little lenient, because Dagorhir has always been safety first. However, I don’t want to see denim ANYTHING: pockets (unless they are on BDU’s). And I’m seeing entirely too many tennis shoes.

I know it’s cold, but PLEASE try to keep in mind that this is supposed to be Medieval times!! I’ll be cracking down a lot harder in the spring, so watch yourselves

LONG LIVE THE KING!
As witnessed by Eldarin of Evermeet

Armies rallied to the field on the 20th of Oct-ogre in the year of our Lord 1996. Multiple nobles appeared to lay siege to Zentru’s forces on this day to take the crown for their own.

In the end, it was the sheer number of troops, led by Orion of the Hutt River, who won the day. Leading his Wolfpack, now King Orion, surrounded the noble Zentru, who called for parlay. The meeting resulted in the surrendering of the crown to King Orion.

At the coronation, much cheering was heard as King Orion was to take the throne. That is until a black guard from within the crowd launched a viscous and dishonorable attempt at assassination. A brief battle commenced and ended in the quick and public execution of said rebels.

Long Live King Orion. May he rule just and wise.

IN NEED OF WRITERS

Eldarin of Evermeet

In my short time traveling around the realm of Avalon, I have seen and heard much. Recently, as many of you know, I have been added to the staff to get the newsletter back on schedule. However, Damian (Scott) and I cannot do this alone. This is our newsletter; yours and mine. This being the case we need your help to keep the stories and articles coming.

Please submit any literary works, advertisements, jokes, quotes, cartoons, etc. to me at any practice, battle or to either of the following:

AVALON SAVED FROM DEATH
As witnessed by Eldarin of Evermeet

In early No-remember in the year of our Lord of 1996, the Kingdom of Avalon was mysteriously stricken when the water supply was infested with poison. Ill wind blew through the kingdom as weakness spread among it’s people and vile evil roamed the lands.

As zombies recruited dead to join it’s unholy army, brave adventures scoured the lands for the cure to the strange poison. It was rumored that several vials were hidden in the far reaches of Avalon. If any two vials are brought together, their combined magic will cure the spreading sickness.

In their wanderings, the native Avalonians came upon a misplaced band from the far away land of Scotland led by Glendolyn MacGregor, though the location of said land remains as yet a mystery.

In the end, a pair of fleet footed elves won the day over the approaching evil as they returned with the cure. But this was at no small cost, as they lost two arms brothers as they sacrificed themselves to the Scots so that Avalon might live.

CLAN MC GREGOR SIGHTED AGAIN!
As witnessed by Eldarin of Evermeet

No a ten-day has past and the lost Scottish band, Clan McGregor has been spotted wandering around the Kingdom of Avalon yet again. This time, the Clan was confronted by Eldarin and one of the Starbow brothers, Elven kin that have previously saved the Kingdom of Avalon from certain doom.

The elves, with the help of a tribe of barbarians managed to hold off attacks by Clan McGregor. At one point, the Lady Glendolyn, matriarch of Clan McGregor, was captured by the barbarians and taken prisoner. The enraged Scotsman rallied and laid siege to break down the Avalonian defensive and rescue their beauteous leader.

The battle continued on most viscously and bloody. The bodies of many littered the battlefield. Despite the heavy losses, the Scotsmen were held at bay and the Avalon flag continued to fly.

CHARACTER BIOS

One of the comments I have heard is that there is not enough emphasis on playing out personas. Since Dagorhir is a LRPG (Live Role-Playing Game), emphasis on ROLE PLAYING, defining a character is important. However, in a battle, do you REALLY know whom the arms person next you is? Do you know his or her name? Race? Clan? Demeanor?

In an effort to help clear things up, I would like to dedicate a few lines to the betterment of role-playing.

If you have any bios that you want to share, please submit them to Sam or Eldarin.

Herein is a sample of what I am talking about.

Player name: Sam Vongratana
Persona: Eldarin (Eldar for short) of Evermeet
Occupation: Elven Ranger, Wanderer

History: Eldarin is, for lack of a better term, an orphan. When Eldarin was a young boy is father was killed in battle and his mother was taken from him; she was bitten by a vampire and became one of the undead. Eldarin grieved for his mother as she passed from her mortal life. Shortly there after her burial site was found open and her body gone from her grave.

Being Sun Elf, he grew to love and honor nature and dedicate himself to the protection of such as a ranger. Young (as elves go), idealistic and honorable, Eldarin fights his battles for what he believes is right and honorable.

Eldarin, now grown, has left the paradise that was Evermeet and his home to see the world and search for adventure. His wanderings have brought him, eventually to the Kingdom of Avalon, where he lends his arm and skill for what he believes is right and just.

DAGORHIR GUIDELINE UPDATES
Eldarin of Evermeet

Announcements made 11/5/96:

- Practices will be both in and outside. Weather permitting, fighters are to meet outside across from Gardner Student Center. For those who want to fight indoors, there is the option to retreat inside into the Rock room (if it is available) or the upper level of the JAR.

- With the onset of winter, fighters are urged to be careful with green, stabbing weapons. Foam tends to harden a bit in colder weather and may be harmful to your opponent's health. If you can see your breath mist in the air - BE CAREFUL.

- Overhand strikes are now allowed in Avalon. However, as this maneuver can cause injury, caution must be used. If a fighter uses the overhand strike in an unsafe manner, it is the Herald’s discretion to pull said fighter off the field.

- For those who do not have a persona, a Character Creating Workshop is available. See Calendar of Events on the last page of the newsletter for details. Personas are mandatory for members to be eligible to fight.

WANTED: MEN-AT-ARMS

Because of the recent darkness sweeping across the fair Kingdom of Avalon, any able bodied men and women are asked to defend these realms from the attacking masses.

Recent losses are hard for all as the cold fingers of winter fall upon us early this year. If Avalon is to survive the harsh weather, as predicted by the prophets, the Kingdom must be protected from both weather and villainy.

ODDS AND ENDS

Q: What do you get when you have an agnostic who is dyslexic and has insomnia? A: Someone who stays up late at night and wonders if there is dog!

MESSAGES FROM THE SCOTSMEN
.As witnessed by Eldarin of Evermeet

While in defense of the crown, I was captured by the Scotsmen and taken prisoner. The Scots were just retreating from a most bloody battle.

While in their company, I was treated most honorably and gleaned much information from them. It seems that this Clan entered a mysterious mist to enter the Kingdom of Avalon. Where this land of Scots, or Scotland is located in relation to Avalon is still being pondered.

In listening to their story, I mistakenly referred to them as being Englishmen (from some strange land called England). I was released after being most brutally punished with the following.

Message from the Scotsmen’s Lard, Lady Glendolyn,
matriarch of Clan McGregor as given to Eldarin

1. Where do all these Shay come from and do they ever go away?

2. Don’t these Avalonian bastards bury their dead?

(in reference to the Undead wandering the countryside)

3. Note to King Orion: (one of Orion’s men imprisoned the Scots Laird. Before she escaped she was told by one of the King’s men, Rimmer, that her lands now belong to the King)

"Firstly, in response to the King owning the Scots claimed land: "I don’t think so!"

Secondly, if you are going to back this claim then be a man and tell her yourself. Otherwise, keep your merry men the hell out of our woods."

LOST: BABY DRAGON

Baby dragon was last seen in the first week of No-remember tethered to a large boulder to the west of Avalon. The next day, all that was left was the boulder and a snapped tether. Baby dragon is a family pet with mild temperament (for a dragon), is about 25 paces long, 50 hands tall and red in color. Answers to the name of Tiny. If sighted please contact local sheriff. REWARD for returning baby unharmed.
